Basic Spree framework is available for free – it’s open source. But you need to customize it to your specific needs and that can be done by a specialized Spree shop. Or you can work on it yourself – if you can spare the time. Just like with any other open source solution it saves you so much time and let’s you focus on your business-specific development.
Bottom line – before you start spending money on marketing use your head. It costs only your time and brainsmarts. And some minimal site customization (paste some code here, put a widget there, setup a custom promotion somewhere else).
Spree Commerce is such an open-source e-Commerce solution. We’ve built a marketplace hosting over 3 million SKUs based on heavily customized and optimized Spree Commerce and a farm of 15+ dedicated servers (load balancers, cache servers, http servers, app servers, database servers and so on). It handled over 15.000 requests per minute in external load tests / DDoS simulation.
Michal FaberQuestion: What e-commerce platform should I use if the requirements are 2,000+ SKUs, customize look of site, have holiday promotions site-wide or per product, sales reports activity, google analytics?
